Ambyth Estate Re Vera Wine 2012 (Paso Robles)

This blend of Mourvedre, Counoise, Grenache, and Syrah leaves a distinctly different impression. Full bodied, round with depth and concentration, very drying, powdery tannins enter early giving this wine more booming, bass notes without the soaring acidity. It's movement is like a slow flood, dark, brooding, enigmatic, even a bit somber. Notes from the winemaker:

I'm really excited about this version of Broken Stones. It seems fairly typical. It is Syrah dominated, and was mainly raised in small 225L barriques, about 75% of which were new. However, this is the first year our new Syrah planting up in the Santa Lucia Mountains made its way into the blend. (What we are now calling Old Creek Vineyard, formerly referred to as Cayucos Ridge.). The new Syrah only makes up around 11%, but it definitely brings a bit of black pepper spice to the game. The rest is the usual sources, with James Berry Vineyard making up
the bulk, a sprinkling of G2, Heart Stone, and a splash of Dusi.

It's a show stopper. Rich in texture, aromas of black fruits and spices, and our characteristic brightness that is always there thanks to our limestone soils. Oh yeah, and the finish goes on and on and on and on……. This wine is a pleaser.

Notes from the winemaker:

When we tasted the wines side by side to write these notes (I know, hard life!), Heather and I were struck by how elevated this wine was. Yes, it's the only Grenache led wine in this Syrah dominated release, but it was just singing! These '21s have really snuck up on me. I have to admit that early in their
lives I found them a little boring for lack of a better term. I now realize they were just late bloomers and their hidden charms
are just now blossoming into something quite magical. They carry a weightlessness while simultaneously jam packed with so much substance. Does that even make sense? Anyways, I
love them. I could throw some tasting notes out to you about this wine, but really you just have to taste it to understand what I'm trying to convey. It's good.

Palate Impressions

Glistening straw with steely lemon hues greet the eye while juicy stone fruit, white flowers and clementine jump from the glass. Primarily pineapple and grapefruit on the palate, these juxtapose with very expressive nose of beeswax, apricot and melon. Its rich and oily mineral mouthfeel is followed by tangy acidity with herbal and light crushed gravel elements.

In the heart of the Napa Valley, The Rutherford AVA - McGah Family Vineyard leads from bench-land Silverado Trail to the Napa River. This is a red rock premium vineyard site with valley floor depth. Consistently producing powerful, concentrated wines in a New World-style. Its proximity to esteemed neighbors like Beckstoffer Vineyard Georges III, Tench Vineyard and Screaming Eagle put this estate in prime location to produce some of the best wines of Napa Valley. Our Sauvignon Blanc block is closer to the river and thrives on darker mineral filled soils. The 2019 vintage shows luxurious waves of richness, resulting from hang-time heaven this vintage is known for.

Sourced from the coveted Summit Block at Oakville Ranch high in the eastern red hills of Oakville, this unique wine hails from one of the finest areas in the world for growing Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon. We have been making wine from these vines for a decade, and the results are always spectacular. Co-fermented in this vintage, these two varieties show the absolute best of what Oakville has to offer.

After 22 months in barrel and one year in bottle, this blend is tightly knit together, but with a softness and polish that makes it immediately accessible. The dark red-purple hue would indicate a wine with immense power. In fact, despite its density, the wine has an aromatic profile which is both subtle and bright, with floral tones, fragrance of incense, savory notes, and juicy red fruit flavors of raspberry, strawberry, and currant. The relationship of balance and strength in which we strive for every year was achieved in the 2014 vintage. On the palate, the core of fruit opens to notes of pie crust and short cake, bringing a crescendo on the finish, but with balance and elegance.

Appearance
Bright with a dark purple/black core and a lighter ruby purple rim showing slowforming, moderately stained tears on the glass.

Aroma
Attractively aromatic and complex with ripe black and red cherry, black currant, new book leather, cedar, tobacco, vanilla bean, licorice, and oak.

Palate
Full-bodied on the palate with ripe complex cherry, cassis, and a subtle red berry fruit on entry, with vanilla and licorice baking spice leading into the midpalate, which shows complex savory notes of cedar, tobacco leaf, and leather. The very long, complex, and continually changing finish is a progression of sustained ripe cherry fruit accented by baking spice and oak notes, with smooth chewy tannins and balanced acidity, adding depth and freshness.

The 1946 Don PX Convento Seleccion produced with Pedro Ximenez grapes dehydrated under the sun at the time of the Second World War, was only bottled in September 2011.

Incredibly complex and rich, sweet, balanced and smooth in the palate, it is both very sweet and somehow salty, and with time it develops a black olive note.

The beginning of one of the largest estates in the Médoc dates back to the 18th century. The 80-hectare (200 acres) estate is predominately planted with Cabernet Sauvignon, the signature variety for the great wines of Pauillac. Pontet-Canet's terroir features rises of Garonne gravel on limestone bedrock. The château's winegrowing philosophy is to intervene as little as possible and as naturally as possible in the vineyard. Only traditional viticultural and cultivation practices are used.

The wines of Chateau Pontet-Canet obtained organic certification from Ecocert and biodynamic certification from Biodyvin in 2010 and from Demeter in 2014.

Bottle 2020 Delmas Walla Walla Valley Syrah

Picked before the smoke in 2020, the wine is a blend of Syrah and Viognier (8.2%) that was stored in 50% new French oak before bottling in February 2022. The nose is hedonistic and highly complex with hoisin sauce, blackberry pie, smoked brisket, green olive tapenade, Nori and suggestions of white pepper dusted bacon. The heady aromas bring you back to the glass for more enjoyment.

Bottle 2017 Daou Cabernet Sauvignon, Adelaida District

The 2017 Cabernet Sauvignon has heady aromatics that affirm this is a serious wine for serious wine lovers. This wine displays black cherry, Zante currant, plum and blackberry up front, complemented by dark chocolate, tobacco leaf and cool menthol. Rounding out the nose are aromas of black olives, briarwood, fig, and dried thyme. Bold and assertive on the palate with flavors initially dominated by dark fruits, Bing cherries, black raspberry, plum, and pomegranate, accompanied by high note accents of cranberries and rhubarb. Midpalate delivers espresso and dried herbs with hints of fennel and cigar box all seamlessly integrated together on a structure of very fine grain, plush and ripe tannins. Bottle 2019 Domaine Saint Préfet Chateauneuf Du Pape

Melted licorice, plum sauce, cherry purée and black tea notes all meld into a silky, suave and seamlessly-textured wine that leaves a subtle echo of lavender at the very end. Grenache, Cinsault, Syrah and Mourvèdre from Rhone, France.

Bottle 2020 Domaine Rollin Pere et Fils Pernand-Vergelesses

This wine, coming from the ideally positioned Les Cloux lieu- dit, possesses a lower-pitched, deeper nose than the basic Per- nand-Vergelesses above, but with an equivalent limestone in- tensity more solid in its character than powdered. The palate is richer and thicker as well, but suffused with the alert acidity typical of the Rollin style.
